How to get there

The events will take place at different locations in and around Vendicari Nature Reserve:

  • Noto

  • La Tonnara

  • Pachino

  • Calamosche

  • Marzamemi

  • Siracusa

Our property is walking distance from Calamosche beach. The closest town is Noto, a 20 minute drive.

You're only responsible for getting to and from Noto. We will take care of the other transportation!

By plane

If you are coming from the US, we recommend flying into Vicenzo Bellini Catania Airport (CTA). We recommend using Google Flights or booking directly with your preferred airlines. Some of the major airlines (e.g. Lufthansa, Alitalia) fly from the US to Catania with layovers in cities like Frankfurt or Rome. You can also fly in to mainland Europe with your preferred airline and then catch a low-cost flight to Catania with Ryanair, EasyJet, or Vueling. Reach out to us if you want help finding the right flights for you!

From Catania, there are three options to get to Noto and/or Vendicari Nature Reserve:

  1. We can pick you up at a pre-designated time if you are arriving on 5/31 (our recommended arrival date).

  2. You can take public transportation to Noto with the Azienda SicilianaTransporti (AST) which takes about 1.5 hours.

  3. If you have experience driving in the Mediterranean, you can rent a car at the airport. This option is not for the faint of heart and requires skill and experience.

Comiso is a small regional airport with connections to Rome, Pisa, Bergamo, Bologna , Naples and Forlí. Once there, the easiest way is to rent a car and drive 1h15min East on roads E45 and SS115 through Modica, Ispica and Rosolini.

If you prefer public transport, you have to take a 10 minutes bus ride to Comiso town and from the train station Trenitalia runs a service to Noto 3 times per day in the afternoon.

If you like boat trips, you may want to consider flying to Malta (also with frequent connections to Europe) and taking a ferry from Valletta to Pozzallo (1h45min). Half an hour walk gets you to the train station, from where Trenitalia runs a service to Noto that takes 35 minutes

By car

Driving in Italy is unlike driving in most other parts of the world and we do not recommend it unless you are skilled, adventurous, experienced, and comfortable taking risks. The further south you go in Italy, the more outrageous driving behavior you will encounter, so don't think your experience driving around Florence or Milan will prepare you for Naples or Sicily!

If, in spite of this warning, you still want to drive to us, you can rent a car in Catania and take the highway to Noto or Vendicari. If you rent a car in the mainland, you will have to cross the strait of Messina by ferry.

By train

Taking the train to Sicily from the mainland is a great way to experience Italy like an Italian. If you choose to follow this route, please allow for ample time to accommodate potential delays. Trenitalia offers multiple options depending on your departure station, but they all will pass through the strait of Messina by ferry. This is a picturesque (albeit slow) process in which the train is loaded onto the ferry car by car and then reassembled upon disembarking. You will be allowed to walk around the deck and have an espresso while enjoying the view of this historical maritime crossroads. This train will stop at Syracuse and you'll have the option to board a different train to get to Noto. If your destination is Vendicari, you need to make additional arrangements for the last leg.
